In order to increase awareness of the environment, especially river ecosystems, IPB University students held a Ciliwung Care Day in Kedung Halang Village, North Bogor District.

This collaborative action was initiated by The Student Association of Aquatic Resource Management (Himasper) and the Forest Management Student’s Club (FMSC). No less than 80 IPB University students participated together with the Ciliwung Care Community (KPC) and the Bogor City Regional Disaster Management Agency.

This activity is a form of invitation to increase awareness and active participation in efforts to preserve the Ciliwung River ecosystem. This step is sought to create a healthy and sustainable environment.

The river cleanup action began with a presentation by Yazid Ramdhani, SHut about the hydrological system in the watershed. The alumnus of the Faculty of Forestry and Environment (Fahutan) IPB University explained the importance of maintaining the balance of the river ecosystem, from upstream to downstream.

He emphasized how human activities around the watershed can affect water quality and quantity, and contribute to flooding or drought.

The participants seemed enthusiastic following the presentation, which was an important opening before jumping directly into the cleanup action on the banks of the Ciliwung River.

Entering the core of the event, students together with residents and collaboration partners carried out clean-up actions on the banks of the Ciliwung River. Support from various parties reflects the growing collective awareness that protecting the river is a shared responsibility.

Muhammad Saabiq, Chief of the Environmental and Social Division of Himasper IPB University, reported that this activity managed to collect around 600 kg of waste in just 1,5 hours.

“We will continue to carry out Ciliwung Care Day regularly as a form of commitment to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment,” he said.

This activity is a means of strengthening solidarity between students and the community, as well as building a collaborative spirit in facing current and future environmental challenges.

M Irfan Afif, SPi, MSi, one of the IPB University lecturers who accompanied also said that cross-sector collaboration is very important in order to realize consistent and sustainable river conservation. (*/Rz) (IAAS/LAN)
