The Minister of Transmigration (Mentrans), Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara gave a Guest Lecture “Transformation of Transmigration Areas Towards New Growth Centers in the Region”. This activity was held at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM), IPB Dramaga Campus, 25/4.

Mentrans said that there has been a paradigm shift in the transmigration program. Currently, the main focus of transmigration is no longer just population movement, but on the development of new integrated and sustainable economic areas.

The goal is to create economic attraction or “sugar” so that population mobility occurs naturally. In the end, the welfare of the entire community increases.

“This noble program was inspired by the idea and dedication of an IPB University alumnus, the late Mr Kasim, who for dozens of years selflessly devoted himself to the people of Maluku,” he said.

“This spirit of dedication is what we want to transmit to the younger generation through the Patriot Transmigration program,” Iftitah added.

Furthermore, he set an economic growth target for transmigration areas of more than 8 percent. This growth, she said, must have a significant impact on reducing poverty and empowering local communities through inclusive industrialization programs.

“Kementrans analogizes the presence of patriot transmigrants in transmigration areas like the function of the medical faculty in a hospital, which will become a living laboratory for the development and empowerment of local communities,” Iftitah explained.

Through this program, he continued, “Students are reminded of the responsibility of the knowledge they have gained and the importance of making a real contribution to answering various problems faced by the community and building the nation and state.”

Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria at the moment said, the synergy between the transmigration program and the Patriot Transmigration program is expected to go hand in hand to meet national food needs.

IPB University, as an institution that has a big concept in regional development throughout Indonesia, emphasizes its commitment to continue to have a positive impact on the progress of the nation through various innovations.

“The Patriot Transmigration Program is a brilliant idea in combining transmigration with academic activities,” said Prof Arif.

He added, IPB University’s motto “Inspiring Innovation with Integrity” also encourages innovations that are developed to inspire many people and are adopted with a strong integrity base.

“The great trust in IPB University is expected to encourage the adoption of innovations in the food sector, including agriculture, fisheries, and animal husbandry, as a solution to realize food self-sufficiency which is the government’s mission,” he said.

In this activity, four signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) and cooperation agreement (PKS) were also carried out, namely:

1) MoU between IPB University and Ministry of Agriculture,

2) PKS Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB University with the Directorate General of Transmigration Area Development and Development,
