Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, received a visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia, Heri Akhmadi, at the residence of the Rector of IPB University.

The visit aimed to discuss various strategic agendas in order to strengthen the role of IPB University in supporting Indonesia-Japan bilateral relations, especially in the fields of agriculture, food security, and carbon trading.

During the meeting, the Rector was accompanied by Prof Yusli Wardiatno, Vice Dean of the Graduate School for Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni, who previously served as the Education and Culture Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Tokyo for the period August 2020 to January 2024.

Prof Arif Satria said that IPB University has research and innovation strengths that are very relevant to today’s challenges, especially in the food and environmental sectors.

“We are ready to take a greater role in encouraging concrete cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in the fields of sustainable agriculture and carbon trading. IPB University also fully supports the national food security program which is the focus of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Prof Arif Satria.

Ambassador Heri Akhmadi in his statement said that IPB University is a strategic institution that can be a catalyst in strengthening Indonesia’s economic diplomacy in Japan.

“Cooperation in the agriculture and food sector, as well as global issues such as energy transition and carbon management, requires strong multi-stakeholder collaboration, and IPB University has the capacity to play a role in it,” he added.

This visit marks the beginning of a more intensive dialog between IPB University and Indonesian diplomatic representatives, to encourage scientific and research contributions in strengthening Indonesia’s position in the eyes of the world, especially in strategic sectors of mutual concern.
