Thoroughly Examine “Herbal Medicine” which is the Excellence of FK IPB University

Faculty of Medicine (FK) IPB University comes with a unique and different approach. “Herbal medicine” is the hallmark and excellence of FK IPB University, packaged in a curriculum with the concept of One Health (universal health).
In the framework of the Indonesian Pharmacy Association Day, the Dean of FK IPB University, Dr. dr Ivan Rizal Sini, GDRM, MMIS, FRANZCOG, SpOG discussed “Herbal Medicine” which became the excellence of FK IPB University.
Dr Ivan said, in addition to being equipped with medical science in general, prospective doctors from IPB University received additional knowledge about herbal medicines through the implementation of the community education model.
He said, the existence of the Faculty of Medicine is part of the Agromaritime 4.0 ecosystem owned by IPB University which is strong in research in food and nutrition management.
“Thus, the development of the Faculty of Medicine with additional education and research on herbal medicines is something relevant,” he said.
Dr Ivan explained, additional competence on herbal medicine is an added value provided by IPB University in a block of academic education and research conducted. It is also a differentiator of medical education at IPB University with others.
“We can provide additional accents on how the application of herbs in society will be carried out through community-based medicine as the main key because herbal medicines are very commonly consumed by the community,” he said.
Further on herbal medicine, Dr Ivan said the importance of the research ecosystem in an effort to juxtapose conventional medical treatment (western medicine) with herbal medicine.
That way, he said, herbal medicine is increasingly trusted, with strong research and scientific proof.
Not only that, the Faculty of Medicine in the ecosystem of IPB University, which is strong in veterinary science, is very relevant in efforts to prevent conditions related to zoonoses. All of this is summarized in the Longitudinal Integrative Clerkship (LIC) education model, which is a community-based education model.
“Doctors who graduate from IPB University will have a mindset of treating the community. This is what we build during the educational process at FK IPB University,” he said.
Meanwhile, in terms of community service, IPB University has been present in more than 6.000 villages in Indonesia through its socio entrepreneurship. “This is an added value that other campuses do not have,” added Dr Ivan. (IAAS/RUM)
