Lembaga Wakaf Nurul Taqwa (LWNT) PT Indosat and PT Geltech Prima Indonesia, in collaboration with IPB University, launched Collagel, the first halal collagen gelatin product produced in Indonesia. The launching event took place at Auditorium 4th floor of Indosat Building, Indosat Office, Jalan Merdeka Barat, Gambir, Central Jakarta (15/2).

Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria said, this product is expected to meet the needs of the community and domestic industry, considering that almost 100 percent of collagen gelatin is currently still imported.

“This effort is a breakthrough in the development of innovation in the field of fisheries, especially blue food to be mineralized and commercialized, so that it can have a national economic impact,” he said.

Collagen is made from high-quality fish and its halalness is guaranteed. Prof Khaswar Syamsu, Chief of Halal Science Center IPB University, revealed that the majority of collagen gelatin currently circulating are imported products and made from pigs or cows with unclear halal status.

“Therefore, Collagel derived from fish is present as a halalan thoyiban product,” he said.

This product involves IPB University experts, Prof Tun Tedja Irawadi from the Halal Science Center and Prof Mala Nurilmala from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK).

Sandiaga Uno, also appreciated the launch of this Collagel product. He believes this collaboration will open up business opportunities and jobs for the community. “Hopefully the products launched can bring blessings and goodness,” he explained.

Representative of PT Geltech Prima Indonesia, Raden Radya, revealed that in this event, collagen products for the food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and health industries were launched. There are also ready-to-eat collagen products in the form of liquigel with plain, mint, ginger, and orange variants.

“Alhamdulillah, from the trials, people feel the benefits, including for joint health and repair, skin health, anti-aging, antioxidants, deep sleep, digestive health, and even support the harmony of married couples’ relationships,” he said.

He is committed that part of the business profits (mauquf alaih) will be given as charity, especially for scholarships for FPIK IPB University students. “Hopefully this Collagel product is a product that brings blessings to all and goodness without limits like the LWNT tagline,” he said.

Wakhid Effendi, CEO of LWNT, said that he is optimistic that this product has a very large market share in Indonesia. “Of course, we hope that the investment of productive waqf funds will be profitable and will be used to help the welfare of people in need,” he said.

Dean of FPIK IPB University, Prof Fredinan Yulianda also appreciated and supported LWNT’s real steps together in downstreaming and commercializing innovations.

“The collagen gelatin product launched today is the first halal-certified factory in our country,” said Yanis Niani, Director of Halal Certification of the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) who also officially gave a halal certificate to PT Geltech Prima Indonesia accompanied by Ivon from LPH LPPOM.
