IPB University Vocational School received a benchmarking visit from Padjadjaran University Vocational School (SV-Unpad), early January. Located in the meeting room of Delta Campus of IPB Vocational School, this activity aims to strengthen the synergy between vocational universities in order to improve the quality of education and prepare superior human resources (HR).

Dean of IPB University Vocational School, Dr Aceng Hidayat, in his speech emphasized the importance of collaboration between vocational colleges to answer the challenges of the times.

“Synergy like this is a strategic step to create competent human resources that are relevant to industry needs. Vocational education also has an important role in answering the challenge of reducing unemployment in Indonesia,” he said.

Furthermore, Dr Aceng said that vocational education must continue to adapt to technological developments and the needs of the world of work. He hoped that this visit could be a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences to strengthen the role of vocational education at the national level.

“We believe, through this collaboration, we can jointly strengthen the skills-based economy that is the foundation of the nation’s future,” he added.

Dean of Padjadjaran University Vocational School, Dr Kurniawan Saefullah, expressed his appreciation for the warm reception from IPB Vocational School. In his speech, Dr Kurniawan mentioned that this benchmarking is an important step in building a newly established vocational education system at Padjadjaran University.

“We see IPB Vocational School as one of the best models of vocational education in Indonesia, especially in terms of curriculum integration with industry needs, partnership strategies with the business world, the industrial world, and the world of work (DUDIKA), and management of administrative information systems. These are important points that we want to learn to be applied in our institution,” said Dr Kurniawan.

Dr Kurniawan expressed his hope for further collaboration between the two institutions. He considered that this visit opened up opportunities for wider cooperation. “We hope this good relationship can produce concrete synergies for the development of better vocational education,” he said.

The benchmarking activity began with a discussion session. In the discussion, IPB Vocational School explained some of its excellent programs, including the implementation of a block system-based curriculum, HR synergy, and management of teaching factory-based learning facilities.

Participants from Universitas Padjadjaran also expressed their views regarding the challenges faced in developing new vocational institutions. The IPB Vocational School provided a number of inputs based on their experience in running vocational education that is integrated with industry needs.

After the discussion session, the SV-Unpad group was invited to review the learning facilities at Delta Campus, including teaching factories and laboratories. This visit provided a direct picture of the implementation of practice-based learning that characterizes vocational education.

This benchmarking activity emphasizes the importance of collaboration between vocational universities in Indonesia. By sharing experiences and best practices, both institutions hope to further improve the quality of vocational education that is relevant to global challenges and the needs of the world of work.
