Introducing Culture and Nature Education, SPs IPB University Invites KNB Students to Situ Gunung, Sukabumi

The Graduate School (SPs) of IPB University invited students receiving the Developing Country Partnership (KNB) scholarship to Situ Gunung National Park, Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP) in Sukabumi. During the visit, monitoring and evaluation (monev) was also carried out.

This activity was attended by Prof Yusli Wardiatno (Vice Dean of SPs in the field of Academic, Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof Titi Candra Sunarti (Vice Dean of SPs in the field of Resources, Cooperation, and Development), Dr Defina (Coordinator of Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers/BIPA), and attended by 20 students who received KNB scholarships from various batches at SPs IPB University.

Prof Yusli Wardiatno welcomed this activity. He hopes that the KNB program will make a positive contribution and cross-cultural interaction between the Indonesian academic community and international students.

“In addition to learning Indonesian language, KNB students are also given an introduction to Indonesian culture, one of which is through this activity. Hopefully after KNB students graduate, they will be able to introduce Indonesia in the international realm,” he said.

Prof Titi Candra Sunarti conveyed the purpose of inviting KNB students to Situ Gunung National Park as part of the introduction of natural and cultural education in Indonesia.

“Situ Gunung National Park has the Situgunung Suspension Bridge which was made as a means of nature conservation education, observation of flora and fauna and is the longest suspension bridge in the middle of the forest in Southeast Asia,” she added.

Aden Mahyar Burhanuddin, SH, MH Section Chief of Region IV Situ Gunung TNGGP explained, TNGGP has an area of 24,270.80 hectares. Situ Gunung National Park Management Resort is one of the famous resorts in this area.

“TNGGP is located at 1.100 meters above sea level (Mdpl). This area has a lot of natural beauty that becomes a natural tourist attraction. TNGGP is also one of the first five national parks in Indonesia announced by the Minister of Agriculture on March 6, 1980,” he added.

Meanwhile, Obet Byamukama, a KNB student from Uganda, said that this activity provided a very valuable and memorable experience, as well as enthusiasm for all KNB students at SPs IPB University. 

“Through this activity we can find out about natural education in Sukabumi and get to know KNB students from various countries. We hope that activities like this can be carried out regularly for KNB students, “ he said. (HBL/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
