Faculty of Animal Science IPB University Inaugurates Teaching Feed Industry
The Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet) of IPB University launched the “Teaching Feed Industry” (TFI) feed mill in the Inter University Center for Excellence (IUCfE) program or inter-university center of excellence (PUAPT) of the Department of Nutrition and Feed Technology (INTP) Fapet IPB. The activity was held at the location of the feed mill Lab A Fapet, IPB Dramaga Campus on 30/12.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the INTP Department Dr Heri Ahmad Sukria outlined the flow of the production process carried out at the feed mill. The process starts from the raw materials being put into the machine, ground to produce pellets with the final result in the form of granules.
“This machine is industrial scale and can operate for one to two years,” Dr Heri explained. This machine can perform mixing, pelleting, pulling, and packaging processes with a capacity of one to two tons per hour.
Within the TFI area there are also new facilities for research/project collaboration, services, and practical training. TFI has built a production line based on equipment used by the feed industry today. This allows for a variety of process conditions and ingredients in the production of all types of animal feed as well as pet food.
TFI serves universities and the feed industry by conducting research in all areas of animal feed especially poultry and small ruminant feed and pet food, and also educating students in feed manufacturing technology.
TFI also has a mission to train graduate students in feed manufacturing technology. Emphasis is placed on understanding the principles of feed manufacturing as a basis for improvement of existing technologies.
In the inauguration, IPB Rector, Prof Arif Satria, accompanied by Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs Prof drh Deni Noviana, Vice Rector for Resource Resilience and Infrastructure Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet, and Dean of Fapet Dr Idat Galih Permana were present.
The leaders of IPB University include the Secretary of the Institute Prof Agus Purwito, Chief of Science and Technology Area Institute Prof Erika B Laconi, Vice Deans of Faculty of Animal Science, such as Prof Irma Isnafia Arief and Prof Sri Suharti, Chairman of the Department of Animal Production Science and Technology Prof Asep Gunawan and Secretary of INTP Department Dr Nur Rochmah Kumalasari and Chief Administrators.
