Caring for the Environment and Friendship, This is How the IPB University Innovation KKNT Team Educates Students in Cibarengkok Village
The IPB University Innovation Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT) Team in Cibarengkok Village, Bojongpicung District, Cianjur Regency implemented a work program “Cibar-Edu: Cibarengkok Environmental Education and Friendship”.
The program is a socialization activity for grade 4 and grade 5 of three elementary schools in Cibarengkok Village, namely Cibarengkok State Elementary School, Gegersari State Elementary School, and Karamat State Elementary School whose implementation is rotated every day. In accordance with the title of the work program, the socialization carried out is about the environment and friendship.
“We chose the material based on the request of the teachers and principals,” said Fida Zalfa, one of the people in charge of the Cibar-Edu work program.
“Although the school has taught us to dispose of trash in its place, there are some children who still litter. In addition, according to the teachers, the influence of the internet and social media makes children practice bullying,” she continued.
The Cibar-Edu activity began with materials on littering prevention and waste management. After being interspersed with ice breaking, the series continued with material on being a good friend.
The material was delivered with Powerpoints that inserted prizes, interactive sessions, and unique funny memes. The students looked enthusiastic and laughed when they saw the funny memes, one of which was the “ Jangan ya Dek yaa” meme with a picture of a crying cat.
The material session was then followed by a game session: Sorting Waste. In the game, each class was divided into two groups. Each group got a picture of garbage and cardboard with the words “organic” and “inorganic”.
Each group will compete to put the pictures of garbage according to the type of garbage into the appropriate cardboard. Of course, the group that put the most pictures of waste according to the type will get a prize. The atmosphere was immediately excited with students who were eager to play.
“This KKN student activity is a form of reinforcement to children,” said Dedah Hasanah, SPd, MM as the Principal of SD Negeri Karamat.
“Even at school, they have been taught to throw garbage in its place. But, your activities here, especially with games, can make children more moved (to throw garbage in its place). Who knows, with your arrival, they will be more eager to pursue their education up to university level,” she continued. (IAAS/RUM)
