ARM HA-IPB Handed Over 6 Shelter Units and Phase 3 Aid Packages to Survivors in Sukabumi
The Independent Volunteer Action of the Alumni Association (ARM HA) IPB University continued its humanitarian operation phase 3 in Sukabumi Regency by officially handing over temporary shelters, last weekend.
The shelter was built by ARM HA-IPB together with Wahana Muda Indonesia (WMI), to be handed over to flood and landslide survivors in Kampung Cilopang, Cibitung Village, Cibitung District. The construction of the shelter was carried out for two weeks so that the survivors did not stay too long in the evacuation post.
The buildings that were handed over consisted of 5 shelter units for survivors to live in and 1 shelter unit used as a volunteer aid post. Of all the units, 4 shelters and 1 shelter were built in RW 001 and RW 002. Meanwhile, another shelter was built in Pentasan Village, RW 002/027, Sumber Jaya Village, Cikaso Subdistrict.
Along with the handover of the shelters, ARM HA-IPB also handed over phase 3 aid packages to Cilopang in the form of foodstuffs including instant noodles and ready-to-eat canned rendang, mineral water, food parcels donated by Yupi, Mentos, and Delico.
In addition, the aid package also consisted of detergent, soap, and floor cleaner donated by PT Unilever Indonesia, as well as raincoats. It also included cooking spices and medicine packages donated by PT Ajinomoto Indonesia.
In Pangimpunan Village, Bojongsari Village, Jampang Kulon Subdistrict, ARM HA-IPB distributed 30 packages of food ingredients, cooking spices, mineral water, snacks, and 20 copies of the Quran, raincoats, and medicine packages.
“The construction of this shelter with WMI is one of ARM HA-IPB’s efforts so that residents who lost their homes can immediately have a shelter like a good home,” said Chairman of ARM HA-IPB, Ir Ahmad Husein, MSi.
Not alone, Ahmad was also accompanied by a member of the HA-IPB ARM Board of Trustees, Ir Ali Fatoni and the SABA BUMI (Solidarity of IPB Alumni for Sukabumi Floods and Landslides) volunteer team.
One of the shelter recipients, Pak Kandar and his wife Mrs Hasanah, admitted that they were very happy to receive a simple house for them to live in with their three young children.
“A big thank you to IPB University and its alumni who have paid attention to our fate,” said Kandar, whose house was washed away by the flooding of the Cikaso River in early December.
HA-IPB ARM volunteers conducted a follow-up rapid assessment to identify the needs of the survivors. One of them is the survivors’ request for more shelters. ARM HA-IPB and WMI plan to build 5 additional shelters in Cibitung and surrounding areas. (IAAS/RUM)
