IPB University’s Vocational School through the Production Technology and Development of Agricultural Communities (PPP) Study Program held a fun participation event titled “Local Innovation and Public Engagement to Support Agromaritime Sustainability”.

In collaboration with Anwar Muhammad Foundation (AMF), the event aimed to strengthen the synergy between the agricultural and maritime sectors in supporting food security and economic development in Indonesia. The event was attended by students, academics, and practitioners.

In her opening remarks, the Vice Dean of IPB University’s Vocational School for Resources, Cooperation, and Development, Dr Anita Ristianingrum said that the theme “Agromaritime” carried out at this activity raised the importance of integration between the agricultural and maritime sectors in Indonesia, which is known to have enormous natural wealth.

“This activity is expected to generate new ideas that not only increase efficiency, but also strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global arena, especially in the food and marine sectors,” she said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the PPP Study Program, Muhammad Iqbal Nurulhaq, SP, MSi, said that Indonesia as an archipelago has land and tourism potential.

“There are farmers and fishermen who immediately leave agriculture and marine life when they see the tourism sector. The increase in tourists can indeed improve the economy, but the negative impact is the accumulation of waste that can have a negative impact on the surrounding. Through this event, students are expected to learn and support and increase local potential,” he said.

Similarly, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AMF also hopes that students can learn from experts through this event.

The speakers at the talk show session were Gulfino Guevarrato from the National Secretariat of the Indonesian Forum for Budget Transparency (Seknas FITRA), Annisya Rosdiana from the Rekam Nusantara Foundation, Muhammad Lutfi from GIZ Indonesia, and Eliza Mardian from the Center of Reform on Economics (CORE) Indonesia.

Also present were PS PPP lecturers Agief Julio Pratama, SP, MSi, then Tri Budiarto SKPm, MSi, and Ririh Sekar Mardisiwi, MSi.

Moderated by one of the PPP Study Program lecturers, Widya Hasian Situmeang SKPm, MSi, the speakers shared experiences and insights into the challenges and opportunities that exist in the agricultural and maritime sectors.

In addition, the importance of collaboration between sectors to accelerate the achievement of food security was also discussed. The talk show opened a dialog about innovations and solutions that can be applied in the field.

The event continued with a focus group discussion (FGD) by presenting various related parties, ranging from students, academics, to industry practitioners.

The FGD aimed to explore ideas and develop concrete recommendations in order to improve the agromaritime sector in Indonesia. Participants were invited to contribute in formulating policies and strategies that can strengthen the agromaritime sector in the future.

The highlight of the event was the Youth Ideathon Competition, which was attended by students from various universities. This competition aimed to explore fresh and innovative ideas among the younger generation regarding the development of the agromaritime sector, especially in terms of technology and community empowerment.

The participants were challenged to design solutions that can integrate the agricultural sector with the maritime sector to increase productivity and sustainability.

Further collaboration between the PPP Program and AMF is expected to strengthen the agromaritime sector and contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic development in Indonesia. (REV/SYL/Nr) (IAAS/NAU)
