Muhammad Damas Tri Atmaja, a student of IPB University from the Faculty of Forestry and Environment (Fahutan) recorded a proud achievement on the international stage. He had the opportunity to speak at the Korea International Water Week (KIWW) 2024.

KIWW is one of the largest global water conferences that focuses on solving the world’s water problems. Damas was trusted to deliver congratulatory remarks at the Technology, Implementation, Policy (TIP) Platform session representing the Indonesia Green Action Forum (IGAF) Local Committee (LC) IPB University.

With the theme “Catalyzing Ecology-Water-Youth Nexus-Based Initiatives through Sustainable Financing Mechanism”, Damas highlighted the urgency of sustainable financing innovation to support youth initiatives in the management of water resources and the environment.

In his speech, he stated, “Youth are agents of change who bring fresh ideas and high energy to realize innovative projects with real impact. The right financing support enables them to lead initiatives that not only conserve water resources but also empower local communities.”

Damas’ presence in this conference reflects the real contribution of Indonesia’s young generation in addressing global strategic issues such as water security, water quality, climate change adaptation, and water infrastructure development. He also emphasized the importance of youth involvement in ecology and water-based initiatives as innovative solutions to environmental challenges.

Damas’ statement was reinforced by the views of Dr Loy Frookh as Represent of the Jordanian Wastewater and Solid Waste Reuse Organization (JWSRO), one of the speakers at the session. Dr Loy emphasized that the involvement of youth organizations in the framework of strategic projects is necessary to ensure inclusivity and sustainability.

“Organizations must be proactive by proposing ideas that are clearly defined and based on community needs, so that environmental agencies and the government can consider them as relevant solutions,” he said.

Damas’ participation also shows IPB University’s commitment in supporting its students to become agents of change at the global level. His presence at KIWW 2024 not only elevates the name of IPB University to the international stage, but also strengthens the role of Indonesian youth in creating innovative solutions to world strategic issues.

Damas hopes that this momentum can inspire more parties to prioritize collaboration between government, youth, and the private sector in creating a more sustainable future. “Discussions at this forum are not just about ideas, but concrete steps towards a better world,” he concluded.
