IPB University Delegation Delivering Rector Scholarship Pioneering Cooperation in Food, Poverty, and Rural Areas in Cambodia
In an effort to realize the vision of IPB University to become a Global South Leader in the field of Agromaritime Academic and Research, IPB University increases various collaborations with universities and related institutions in non-traditional ASEAN countries, namely ASEAN countries that are still relatively limited in cooperation.
For this reason, IPB University seeks to increase cooperation with neighboring countries such as Cambodia, Timor Leste, Laos, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, and Papua New Guinea.
Recently, the delegation of IPB University made an official visit to the city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The visit was conducted to prepare the selection process of prospective students from Cambodia to become recipients of the IPB Rector Scholarship. In addition, several collaborations related to international research and community service were also carried out.
The IPB University delegation was led by the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Agromaritime Community Development, Prof. Ernan Rustiadi accompanied by the Director of International Education, Puji Mudiana, SP, MA.
“This program is a form of IPB University’s commitment to contribute in assisting the development of human resources (HR) in agriculture and food, poverty alleviation, and rural development of Cambodian communities through international cooperation in the fields of education, research, and community service,” explained Prof Ernan.
At the first meeting, the IPB University delegation was welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports of Cambodia, Dr Nos Sles. Two alumni of IPB University also accompanied the meeting, namely Math Alpy as ministerial staff and Torn Sarorn, Senior Ministerial Secretary, Special Affairs, Government of Cambodia.
Dr Nos Sles expressed his appreciation for IPB University’s initiative to provide scholarship opportunities to Cambodian students. “This scholarship program not only strengthens bilateral relations between Indonesia and Cambodia, but also opens opportunities for the young generation of Cambodia to get quality education in one of the best agricultural universities in Southeast Asia,” he said.
Furthermore, the IPB University delegation met with the Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia, Dr Santo Darmosumarto. The delegation reported the purpose of IPB University’s arrival in Cambodia to follow up on the Cambodian student scholarship program as directed by the Rector of IPB University. Dr Santo expressed his support and hopes for the submitted program.
Then, the IPB University delegation also had the opportunity to meet with the Senior Minister for Special Missions, HE Neak Oknha Datok Othsman Hasan and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Man Sokry who is also an alumnus of IPB University.
The delegation of IPB University had the opportunity to visit the Islamic Center of Cambodia in the city of Phnom Penh. The Cambodian side expects support from IPB University in the study and development of human resources in the field of halal food. (*/Nr) (IAAS/NAU)
