IPB University Collaborates with Unhan to Organise SPPI Batch 2 Agricultural Enrichment Programme

The Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development (DPMA) of IPB University in collaboration with the Universitas Pertahanan (Unhan) of Indonesia organised an agricultural enrichment programme in the series of Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) Batch 2. 

The programme aims to provide strategic insights in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, animal science, and nutrition, with a focus on producing future leaders who are able to contribute to the development of Indonesia’s agricultural sector.

The event was officially opened by IPB University’s Vice Rector for Resource Resilience and Infrastructure, Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet, who discussed IPB’s innovations in the field of food. In his speech, Dr Alim emphasised the importance of innovation as the key in facing the challenges of national food security. 

“IPB University continues to be committed to presenting research-based innovations to support food security. Technologies such as smart farming, the development of superior varieties, and diversification of local food products are some concrete examples of how innovation can answer the challenges faced by our agricultural community,” said Dr Alim. 

In the first session, participants were introduced to food technology by Dr Tjahja Muhandri. He explained various food technology innovations that can increase the added value of agricultural products, as well as encourage efficiency in the production process. 

In addition, Director of PMA IPB University, Dr Handian Purwawangsa discussed the village business ecosystem. He highlighted the importance of local economic empowerment to support food security and the welfare of rural communities.

The second session presented Prof Dedi Budiman Hakim, Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Management of IPB University. Prof Dedi discussed the development of community nutrition through a community-based approach. This material underlined the important role of nutrition in supporting the productivity of human resources (HR).

“Food security is not only about production, but also about how we ensure access to adequate nutrition for all people. This programme is a strategic step to achieve this,” he said.

In closing, Dr Roza Yusfiandayani as the Vice Chief of IPB University’s Tani and Nelayan Center provided material on effective communication, designed to help participants better communicate their ideas and innovations to various stakeholders.
