IPB University’s Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT) Innovation students won first place in the KKN Village Innovation event organised by the Regional Development Planning, Research and Development Agency (Bappedalitbang) of Tegal Regency (19/11).

The event was attended by 174 teams from 10 universities that conducted KKN in Tegal Regency. The team’s success was achieved through superior innovations that they implemented during the KKN programme in Tonggara Village, Kedungbanteng District.

The IPB University student team carried out the KKNT Innovation programme entitled “Livestock Herbal Lollipops: Supplementary Feed for Ruminants: Supplementary Feed for Ruminants as an Effort to Prevent Mineral Deficiency”.

The innovation aims to prevent mineral deficiency in ruminants, especially goats. This effort is made to increase the supply of quality goats in Tegal Regency, which is no more than 40 per cent.

“This innovation is important to implement because Tegal Regency has a typical culinary of goat satay but the supply of local goats can only be fulfilled by farmers by 40 per cent,” said Nita Fatkhurohmah, a representative of the KKNT Innovation IPB University team.

In the jury’s assessment, the excellence of this innovation lies in its real impact and sustainability. This was also conveyed directly by the Coordinator of the Tonggara Village Breeder Group, Sigit Widiantoro. He said that livestock herbal lollipops are still actively used after the KKNT Innovation IPB University students returned three months ago.

With the livestock herbal lollipops, goats’ appetite increases and can give birth 100 per cent without miscarriage. The total number of goats that benefit is more than 80.

“We really feel the benefits of the lollipops made by KKN students from IPB, our goats are healthier and fatter and rarely experience miscarriages. Although the students have gone home, we will continue to produce lollipops to improve the quality of our livestock,” said Sigit.

The team leader of KKNT Innovation IPB University, Achmad Nurfadli expressed his gratitude and hope for this achievement. “We feel very happy to be able to benefit the people of Tegal Regency, especially Tonggara Village and at the same time make IPB University proud,” he said.

He and the team hope that this innovation can continue to grow and spread widely throughout the villages of Tegal Regency.

This proud achievement was made possible by the support of various related parties, namely the Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development of IPB University as the manager of KKNT Innovation, Dr Sugeng Santoso as the Tegal Regency regional coordinator lecturer, and Fajar Maulana SPi, MSi as the field assistant lecturer.
