The Leadership and Executive Education Institute (LKPE) of IPB University participated in the National Gathering with the academic community organized by the Territorial Center of the Indonesian Army (Pusterad), under the theme “The Role of the Young Generation in Supporting Core Duties Towards a Golden Indonesia.” This event aimed to strengthen bonds and foster a spirit of nationalism among students and academics.

In his opening remarks, Brigadier General TNI Farouk Pakar, SPd, MHan, Director of Pusterad, emphasized the importance of upholding and nurturing national values amid the challenges of globalization and rapid social change. “Students and the academic community serve as the vanguard in preserving national unity. They are the future generation who will shape the direction of Indonesia’s future,” he stated.

Dr Naufal Mahfudz, Chief of LKPE IPB University, delivered a presentation titled “The Role of the Young Generation in Supporting the Core Duties of TNI Through the Utilization of Science and Technology.” Dr Naufal highlighted the vital role of young people in safeguarding national sovereignty, enhancing defense capabilities, and supporting national development.

“The strategic role of young people in defense technology innovation includes adapting to new technologies, developing cyber defense, innovating in the use of drones and automated systems, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) in defense, and fostering collaboration between universities and TNI in research and development,” he explained.

He mentioned that IPB University has several innovations that align with TNI’s objectives. These include a bulletproof vest developed by Dr Siti Nikmatin, radar-resistant materials made from shrimp shells and fish bones developed by Dr Bambang Riyanto, and the Swarm Ship (an unmanned vessel specifically programmed to safeguard Indonesia’s maritime sovereignty) created by students from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science.

According to him, the spirit of nationalism must be implemented not only as a concept but also through concrete actions. “Nationalism is not merely about identity but also about how we contribute to nation-building, maintain unity amid diversity, and address national and global challenges while staying grounded in the values of Pancasila,” Dr Naufal remarked.

He added that the academic community has a strategic role in strengthening the foundation of nationalism through knowledge development, research, and community service. “Three essential skills or behaviors young people must possess are patriotism, innovation, and technology mastery,” he stressed.

The event was attended by members of the academic community, including lecturers, students, and student organization representatives. Participants eagerly engaged in discussions and a Q&A session with Dr Naufal, addressing various national issues, including challenges, social conflicts, and the importance of fostering national character in the education sector.

The event concluded with several recommendations, such as strengthening collaboration, enhancing technological literacy, and leveraging young talent. Dr Naufal expressed hope that events like this would be held consistently as a means of reinforcing national resilience through education.

Through this activity, it is hoped that the academic community can become agents of change who continuously contribute to maintaining national unity and developing a spirit of nationalism in all aspects of their lives. “Young people must possess strong character,” Dr Naufal concluded, ending the discussion.
