In strengthening research infrastructure, IPB University will have a new building called the National Instrumentation Center for Agromaritime and Bioscience (NICAB), the result of cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency and IPB-SNU Center for Agriculture and Bioscience (KOICA-ICAB).

This project focuses on three main aspects, namely laboratory remodeling, equipment provision, and construction of new laboratories that meet national and international standards.

Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria welcomed this cooperation program. To achieve maximum results, he said the existing facilities must be used properly and the research agenda must be coordinated.

“The construction of this building must also be able to increase the capacity of IPB University in providing high-quality research facilities, while encouraging the development of innovations in various fields,” he said when giving a speech at the NICAB Coordination Meeting at IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (20/11).

Vice Rector of IPB University for Resource Resilience and Infrastructure, Dr Alim Setiawan emphasized the evaluation and planning aspects. According to him, it is important to evaluate what has been done and plan for future development.

“Currently, large investments have been made, both in the form of laboratory equipment and building renovations to support education and research,” he said.

Dr Alim said the cooperation project with KOICA provides a great opportunity to procure equipment and develop a more adequate building.

“The design process of the new building has started, and further discussions are needed to adjust the needs, including tools that are relevant to the research direction. This opportunity must be utilized as well as possible to support the progress of education, research, and collaboration of IPB University,” he said.

Vice Rector of IPB University for Research, Innovation, and Agromaritime Development, Prof Ernan Rustiadi, said that various researches at IPB University require the procurement of new laboratory equipment which is a major need.

This procurement is in line with government priority programs and supports the improvement of IPB University’s performance, especially in the food sector.

“The similarity of vision and great attention to food issues is an important foundation in the implementation of research,” he said.

Project Manager of KOICA-ICAB, Prof Ho Sang Kang said that the new building should be designed to support long-term mobility while facilitating the expansion and transformation of research facilities.

The building will be equipped with high-tech research equipment and designed in accordance with national and international legal regulations to ensure laboratory safety.

“The building’s layout will also be organized in such a way as to ensure work comfort and efficiency. The building is also targeted to meet all certification standards of research and testing institutions, both domestic and international,” he said. (dr/Rz) (IAAS/HLF)
