In order to strengthen collaboration and development of practice-based vocational education, Politeknik Negeri Jakarta (PNJ) visited the Teaching Factory (Tefa) of IPB University Vocational School, some time ago.

This activity is a series of professional certifications organized by PNJ containing participants from various polytechnics throughout Indonesia. One of the activities is visiting tefa management for hands-on learning, sharing knowledge, and discussing opportunities for cooperation between vocational institutions.

The activity, which took place at the Delta Building, IPB University Vocational School, began with remarks from representatives of the institution. Dr Anita Ristianingrum, Vice Dean of IPB University Vocational School for Resources, Cooperation, and Development, delivered her remarks and appreciation.

“We are very grateful for PNJ’s initiative to organize this visit. At IPB University Vocational School, practice-based education is highly prioritized, with a proportion of about 60 percent of our curriculum being practical activities in laboratories and teaching factories. We hope this visit can open new insights for participants in the implementation of vocational education,” said Dr Anita.

In her speech, Dra BS Rahayu Purwanti, a representative from PNJ, also emphasized the importance of collaboration across vocational institutions. “It is great to see first-hand how IPB University Vocational School implements practice-based education. We hope this visit can strengthen the relationship between polytechnics in Indonesia and provide inspiration to all participants,” she said.

Dra Rahayu also expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome from IPB University’s School of Vocational Studies, hoping that the visit could serve as a bridge to better vocational education initiatives across Indonesia.

The activity included a video profile screening of IPB University Vocational School, discussion sessions, and a visit to the tefa facility. In the discussion session, the participants discussed various important aspects, including curriculum strategy, implementation of professional certification, and methods of attracting industry to be involved in the learning process.

One representative from a polytechnic expressed his interest in the IPB University Vocational School Tefa model, especially in terms of cooperation with industry to provide real work experience for students.

In addition, participants were also interested in various innovations from existing study programs at IPB University Vocational School, such as the development of nutrition-based food products. One example is the coffee processing program that involves several study programs and includes production to marketing stages. This program provides students with valuable practical experience in a real industrial environment.

Through this activity, it is hoped that the relationship between polytechnics throughout Indonesia can be closer and open up opportunities for collaboration in the field of vocational education. This visit is not only an exchange of knowledge, but also the first step towards developing better and more competitive vocational education standards. (NPA/ASW/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
