The easiest step to participate in protecting the environment is by planting trees. This is often heard from several people, even lecturers at the Faculty of Forestry and Environment (Fahutan) IPB University.

In line with PT Gaia Eko Daya Buana’s innovation, Jasling.id, planting trees is a joint action with the community in fighting climate change. Jasling.id has a vision of realizing an environment that provides the basic needs of living things. Thus, tomorrow is always better, through appreciation of community groups around the forest.

As a student of IPB University who participated in an internship program at PT Gaia, Fauzia and her colleagues had the opportunity to plant trees in the framework of PT Gaia’s 17th Anniversary. The tree planting was carried out in Sukaharja Village, Sukamakmur District, Bogor Regency (16/11). The tree seedlings planted were 70 Musang King durian seedlings (Durio zibethinus) of one meter size and 30 Musang King durian seedlings of 80 cm size.

This activity was attended by Gaia, 9 students of Fahutan IPB University, Daun Sejati Forest Farmers Group (KTH), Sukaharja Forest Village Community Organization (LMDH), Perhutani, Hamlet Head, and Sukaharja Village community. The tree planting was carried out in part of the Citarum watershed, Ciomas sub-watershed.

“Tree planting in part of the Citarum watershed, Ciomas sub-watershed, is one of the efforts to prevent flooding due to the swift flow of the river during rainfall in Jakarta. In addition, the green area around the watershed also becomes an optimal water catchment area so that local residents can avoid water shortages during the dry season,” said Andi Marjoko, Chief of Daun Sejati Forest Group.

The planting of durian trees in the area is considered to be able to provide benefits for the protection of biodiversity, provide environmental services, and benefit the social life of the surrounding community.

“We hope that the planting of durian trees can encourage residents to participate in maintaining and planting productive plants and can enjoy the results of today’s planting in the next 5-6 years,” said Andika, Chairperson of the Sukaharja Community Forest Organization. (*/Rz) (IAAS/SNI)
