IPB University Strengthens the Skills of MA Teachers in West Java in Laboratory-Based Practicum
The Physics Department of IPB University in collaboration with the West Java Region Physics Subject Teachers Association (MGMP) organized a laboratory-based physics material strengthening activity for madrasah aliyah (MA) physics teachers in West Java.
Taking place at IPB University’s Teaching Lab, the training aims to improve physics teachers’ practical skills, so that they can apply laboratory-based learning methods in the classroom.
“This activity is expected to strengthen the competence of physics practicum for MA teachers,” said Chairman of the Physics Department of IPB University, Prof Tony Ibnu Sumaryada WP when opening the event.
The event continued with remarks from the Chairman of the Madrasah Education Division of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of West Java Province, H Ade Ruhiyat, MSi, who emphasized the importance of improving teacher skills in supporting practice-based learning.
A total of 45 physics teachers from various regions in West Java participated in this activity with enthusiasm. The practicum was conducted in groups, with each group consisting of 4-5 teachers to ensure learning effectiveness.
On the first day, participants practiced three main topics, namely waves, optics, and temperature and heat. Each session began with a brief explanation by lecturers from the Physics Department of IPB University, then participants did the practicum assisted by laboratory assistants.
On the second day, the topics covered were electricity and magnetism as well as fluids. The electricity and magnetism material focused on Faraday’s law while the fluid material focused on Archimedes’ law.
At the end of the session, participants were given additional material on data analysis and data visualization using Microsoft Excel, which is useful for processing practical results. After that, the chief executive of the activity, Rima Fitria Adiati, ST, MT gave an explanation regarding the post-training tasks that would be a follow-up to learning in their respective schools.
This activity ended with the delivery of impressions and messages by the Chairman of the Communication Forum (FK) MGMP Physics MA, Drs Gugun Gunardi, MPFis. He expressed his appreciation and full support for this training. According to him, this training is a very useful and relevant program to improve the quality of physics learning in schools.
“Hopefully similar activities can be held again in the following year to broaden and deepen teachers’ insights in managing physics practicum,” he hoped. (ats/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
