IPB University Graduate School Hosts the Annual Meeting of Forpimpas Western Region 2024
The Graduate School (SPs) of IPB University hosted the Annual Meeting of the Western Region Postgraduate Leaders Forum (Forpimpas) 2024 with the theme Transdisciplinary Approach in Graduate Education for Sustainable Development towards Golden Indonesia 2045. The activity was held at the IPB International Convention Center, Bogor (12-13/11).
This activity was opened by Prof Deni Noviana (Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs of IPB University), a report by Prof Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat (Dean of SPs IPB University), remarks by Prof Hidayat (Chairman of Forpimpas Western Region).
Present as speakers were Prof Nazamid bin Saari (Universiti Putra Malaysia), Prof Muryanto Amin (Chairman of the Western Region State University Cooperation Agency), Prof Sri Suning Kusumawardani (Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology), Dr Dwi Larso (Director of Scholarships of the Education Fund Management Agency/LPDP) and Prof Damayanti Buchori (IPB University).
Prof Deni Noviana warmly welcomed the Forpimpas participants. In his opening remarks, he said that currently universities are required to be not only adaptive but also innovative in preparing a generation that is able to answer the needs of sustainable and holistic development. Moreover, Indonesia is now facing great challenges in realizing the Golden Indonesia 2045, which is an advanced, competitive, inclusive, and sustainable Indonesia.
“The role of higher education becomes very important and crucial, this is where the interdisciplinary approach has a very strategic role. Higher education not only functions as a teaching institution but also certainly becomes a center of research and innovation that answers social, economic, and environmental challenges integrally,” he said.
Prof Deni explained that postgraduate education has a very large role in supporting the development of interdisciplinary science. For example, approaches in agricultural science, food technology, economics, social and public policy can be interconnected to find sustainable solutions.
“This collaboration and integration of knowledge will certainly be the foundation for producing graduates who not only have specialization in their fields but also a deep understanding of the complexity of global issues,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Prof Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat explained that this theme is very relevant to the vision of SPs IPB University in integrating transdisciplinary approaches in all fields of science. According to him, postgraduate education plays an important role in creating innovation and significant contributions to research and development.
“This year, SPs IPB University entered a very meaningful age, namely 50 years, which we call the Golden Year. Along with this long journey, we strive to continue to maintain academic quality and relevance through innovation in learning and research,” he added.
He hoped that in this forum participants could share experiences and strategies in implementing curriculum, research, and policies that support transdisciplinary education. He emphasized that postgraduate education must be able to produce graduates who not only master one field of science, but are also able to think holistically to find solutions to increasingly complex challenges.
“We hope that the discussion of this activity can strengthen the relationship between institutions in realizing a stronger and more impactful synergy. Through close collaboration and support, we are optimistic that we can jointly advance Indonesia’s postgraduate education, creating a generation that is smart, innovative, and able to answer future challenges,” he added.
