Vocational Education as Solution to Labor Problems in West Java and Banten
The Partnership Ecosystem Consortium of West Java and Banten Province held a Media Bootcamp for the Partnership Facilitation Program 2024 on Saturday (26/10). The event was held at the IPB University Vocational School Campus and was attended by lecturers, students, and media representatives, and presented speakers and practitioners who are experts in the field of media and vocational education.
Dean of IPB University Vocational School, Dr Aceng Hidayat, in his speech highlighted the important role of vocational education in responding to the increasingly rapid industrial changes. According to him, vocational education must be adaptive to developments and be agile in facing the challenges of the world of work.
“We must recognize that the development of the industrial world is very fast. Vocational education must continue to be adaptive to changes and be more agile in following its development, especially in solving labor problems,” he said.
Dr Aceng also added that the preparation of human resources (HR) at the university level is the key to answering future industrial challenges. “Vocational education must continue to be promoted so that it is increasingly recognized and recognized as a solution to face future industrial challenges,” he added.
Chairman of the West Java and Banten Consortium Partnership Ecosystem Program, Dr Doni Sahat Tua Manalu, also pointed out the importance of vocational education in exploring the potential of the West Java and Banten regions. According to him, vocational education has a strategic role in improving the quality of the workforce and adjusting to the needs of local industries.
“Vocational education is expected to be able to explore various potentials in West Java and Banten for the advancement of the economy and society,” said the lecturer at IPB University’s Vocational School.
In addition, he also emphasized the important role of the media in disseminating information about the contribution of vocational education in solving various social and economic problems in society.
“The role of the media is very large in encouraging the dissemination of information about vocational education efforts to solve problems in society,” he concluded.
During the event, participants received training on opinion writing facilitated by Dr. David Rizar Nugroho, a journalist and senior media practitioner in Bogor. In his presentation, Dr David explained that a good opinion writer must have many ideas derived from absorbed information.
“To be a good writer, we must be rich in ideas, and those ideas come from the information we gather through our various senses,” he explained.
He also emphasized the importance of reviewing information regularly, understanding the core of the problem, and writing with a strong knowledge base. “Writing starts with what we love, and every piece of writing should have its own strong ideas,” added Dr David.
This Media Bootcamp is part of a series of Partnership Facilitation events initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) through the Directorate of Partnership and Alignment of Business and Industry (Mitras DUDI) Directorate General of Vocational Education.
The West Java and Banten Province Partnership Ecosystem Consortium contains vocational education institutions, including IPB University Vocational School, Bandung State Polytechnic, Bandung Manufacturing Polytechnic, Jakarta State Polytechnic, Creative Media State Polytechnic, Subang State Polytechnic, and Indramayu State Polytechnic.
Through this event, it is hoped that a stronger collaboration will be established between the world of vocational education, industry, and media to jointly face employment challenges, especially in the West Java and Banten regions. (ASW/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
