IPB University’s Surfactant and Bioenergy Research Center (SBRC) signed a collaboration with PT Multi Hanna Kreasindo Tbk. This collaboration is in an effort to develop innovations in the utilization of glycerine pitch waste as a glycerol carbon catalyst.

Dr Meika Syahbana Rusli, Chief of SBRC IPB University, said that this collaboration is one of the concrete forms of applying research innovations to industry. She said, through collaboration with PT Multi Hanna Kreasindo Tbk, she was confident that the research conducted could have a real impact, both in terms of technological innovation and economic and social benefits for the wider community.

The IPB University lecturer said that this collaboration aims to utilize industrial waste, especially glycerine pitch into glycerol-based carbon catalysts. He said glycerine pitch plays an important role in industry, especially as a catalyst to produce various products with economic value such as fuel, perfumery, food, and pharmaceuticals.

“This development and innovation is expected to be a practical solution for the utilization of glycerine pitch into products that are more economically valuable, of good quality, environmentally friendly, and can be commercialized,” said Dr Meika Syahbana.

Meanwhile, Yuliandri Matalata, General Manager of PT Multi Hanna Kreasindo Tbk, stated that this collaboration is the company’s strategic step in optimizing local resources and supporting sustainable green innovation.

“We believe that with research support from IPB University’s Surfactant and Bioenergy Research Center, we can turn waste into something that has high added value and is in line with the company’s mission to maintain environmental balance,” he said.

PT Multi Hanna Kreasindo Tbk and SBRC IPB University hope that this project will become a pioneer in the development of environmentally friendly technology in Indonesia. (*/ra) (IAAS/RUM)
