Prof Arif Satria, Rector of IPB University underlined the importance of the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the Netherlands in facing today’s global challenges. The Week of Indonesia-Netherlands Education and Research (WINNER) 2024, which was held recently, could be one of the strategic partnership efforts.

“Through WINNER 2024, IPB University hopes to strengthen commitment in facing global challenges and develop mutually beneficial partnerships. With the spirit of collaboration, we can create significant changes for society and the environment,” he said at the event held at Indonesia House Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

He continued, active involvement in this strategic partnership is also expected to bring Indonesia and the Netherlands towards a more sustainable future.

In his speech, Prof Arif stated, “We all realize that the world is currently facing significant threats and challenges. For this reason, a partnership based on IPB University’s roadmap in agromaritime research is very important.”

He emphasized the need for an integrated and sustainable approach to address issues such as climate change, environmental degradation, the industrial revolution 4.0, and its impact on food security and energy production.

An example is the partnership between IPB University and Wageningen University and Research (WUR) that has been running for a long time.

“Collaboration between IPB University and the Netherlands has given birth to various innovations, including Smart-In-Ag for smart agriculture, SustainPalm, NWO One Health, and so on,” he explained.

Prof Arif explained, one of the main focuses of this partnership is the implementation of sustainable practices. “We believe that through this collaboration, we can minimize environmental impacts, promote long-term ecological balance, and reduce dependence on non-renewable resources,” he added.

By emphasizing the responsible use of natural resources, IPB University hopes to become a pioneer in the development of innovative and sustainable solutions, he said.

Prof Arif also underlined the importance of collaborating with partners who have a holistic approach. “We are always looking for partners who not only have the same vision, but are also able to provide systematic solutions to identify and solve existing challenges,” he said.

This approach, he said, is expected to encourage increased innovation in personal and professional contexts, resulting in a broader impact.

In the context of climate change and environmental degradation, Prof Arif emphasized that all parties must work together to create effective solutions.

“We need synergy between government, academia, and the private sector to face these challenges,” he explained. Through strong partnerships, he emphasized that IPB University is committed to facilitating research and development that can address pressing global issues. (MW/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
