IPB University Vocational School, especially the Veterinary Paramedic Study Program, participated in the commemoration of World Rabies Day 2024 held on Saturday (28/9) at the Livestock and Animal Health Instrument Standardization Center (PSIPKH), Bogor.
The event was a collaboration between the Bogor City Food Security and Agriculture Agency (DKPP), the Indonesian Veterinary Association (PDHI) West Java II, and IPB University Vocational School.
One of the main activities in this event was free vaccination for pets, aimed at preventing the spread of rabies. In this activity, more than 124 cats, 18 dogs, and 5 ferrets received free vaccinations.
Chief of DKPP Bogor City, Ir H Chusnul Rozaqi, MM, opened the event and emphasized the importance of vaccination in maintaining the health of pets in Bogor City. “And we continue to improve this program regularly. Hopefully, we will conduct activities and monitor rabies in animals every month,” he explained.
Chairperson of the Veterinary Paramedic Study Program at IPB University Vocational School, drh Henny Endah Anggraeni, MSc, expressed her support for this event. “Rabies is a very dangerous zoonotic disease. Our participation in this activity is part of our commitment to continue providing education and animal health services to the community,” she said.
Furthermore, Dr Henny added, through this free vaccination activity, public awareness of pet vaccination will be raised. “We want to raise public awareness about the importance of rabies vaccination for pets. This is one of the most effective preventive measures to protect animals and humans from rabies.” she said.
A total of three lecturers of IPB University Vocational School from the Veterinary Paramedic Study Program, along with ten students, were actively involved in this activity as medical personnel who assisted in the vaccination process. The presence of students in this activity not only serves as a form of community service, but also a means of direct practice that is beneficial for their vocational education.
