The Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) team of the Agrometeorology Student Association (Himagreto) of IPB University once again showed their dedication in community empowerment through the Climate Village program in Cibunian Village, Pamijahan District, Bogor Regency, West Java.

After several months of actively carrying out various activities with the Cibunian Village community, this program was officially closed with a reflection event on Saturday (28/10) which took place in Cipatat 2 RW 6 and RW 5. This event aims as a momentum for all parties to convey the achievements, impacts, and lessons learned during the service period. The event was attended by 30 participants, including village officials and community leaders.

The chief executive of PPK Ormawa Himagreto, Alvin Wildan Sahli, expressed his gratitude to all parties who have supported the program. “This activity not only taught us how to assist the community, but also to build a village that is more adaptive to climate change.”

“We hope that all the results that have been achieved can provide long-term benefits for Cibunian Village, especially in realizing the Climate Village,” said Alvin. He added, during the implementation of the program, Himagreto students learned a lot from the local wisdom of the people in Cibunian Village.

In this activity, the Himagreto PPK Ormawa team presented the program achievements and their impact on the community. During the service period, students held a series of activities including Sebunian (Cibunian Climate System), Sewangi (Vetiver Center), Sebaya (Cibunian Empowered School), and Setara (People’s Agricultural School).

According to Alvin, the community in Cibunian Village is very enthusiastic about the various activities they organize. For example, the landslide mitigation training is considered very relevant, given the topography of the village which is prone to landslides. In addition, the Climate Village program also focuses on increasing community awareness in maintaining soil and water quality through integrated agriculture.

“We also provide guidance on environmentally friendly planting techniques and the use of organic fertilizers, which are expected to increase agricultural productivity in a sustainable manner without damaging the local ecosystem,” said Alvin.

One of the important moments in the closing ceremony was the reflection delivered by several community representatives. Ratih, one of the community members from Cipatat 2 RW 6 Village, expressed her appreciation to IPB University students who had carried out the service.

“We are greatly helped by the presence of students here. We have gained a lot of knowledge, especially related to environmentally friendly agriculture and how to deal with hydrometeorological disasters that we did not know before. Hopefully, this activity can continue,” said Ratih.

For Alvin, the impact of this program is tangible for the Cibunian Village community. In addition to providing knowledge about disaster mitigation and sustainable agriculture, this program also strengthens the relationship between students and the local community. Cibunian Village officials who attended the event expressed their commitment to support similar activities in the future.

“We hope that the synergy established during the Climate Village program in Cibunian Village can continue and support community empowerment and environmental preservation. This program is a learning platform for students while building village resilience to climate change,” he said.

He and his team invite the community to continue to maintain togetherness and the environment, and hope that Kampung Iklim can become an example of climate change adaptation for other villages. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
