IPB University Student Volunteers and ARM HA-IPB Hold Disaster Management Training
Student volunteers from IPB University, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Social Affairs, and Environment of the Student Executive Board (BEM KM) IPB, organized a Disaster Management Training last weekend.
The training was designed for IPB University students and alumni, held in the Biology Lecture Hall at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of IPB University.
The event was fully supported by the Independent Volunteer Action of the IPB Alumni Association (ARM HA-IPB), which deployed two main facilitators, Ir Ahmad Husein, MSc and Ir Agus Susilo JP.
With the theme “Empowering the Youth for Disaster Preparedness: The Role of Volunteers and Technology in the Modern Era,” the one-day event attracted 30 participants. They learned about volunteer profiles, the autonomous body ARM HA-IPB, and various volunteer activities.
Participants were also introduced to the basics of disaster management, covering the phases of pre-disaster (prevention, mitigation, and preparedness), during the disaster (emergency response), and post-disaster (recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction).
“Understanding the basics of disaster management is crucial for volunteers to comprehend the stages of disaster response and appropriate activities for each phase,” explained Ir Ahmad Husein, MSc, the Chairman of ARM HA-IPB, who facilitated the training.
Meanwhile, Ir Agus Susilo JP, Chairman of Volunteer Management, emphasized the importance of volunteering with a joyful and sincere heart. “Not many people are willing to participate in activities without expecting payment,” he remarked.
The training also served as part of the recruitment process, allowing participants to earn certification as Principal Volunteers of ARM HA-IPB. The sessions included presentations, group discussions, and engaging games to enhance participants’ understanding of disaster management concepts.
In the coming years, ARM HA-IPB plans to conduct more intensive volunteer recruitment training to achieve the foundation’s target of recruiting 5.000 new volunteers. (*/Rz) (IAAS/FJN)
