IPB University PSP Lecturer Collaborates with Lenfest Ocean Program to Discuss EBFM
IPB University lecturer at the Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization (PSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Prof Budy Wiryawan participated as a resource person in the Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management (EBFM) Workshop/Training in Bali, recently.
This third series of training focused on the research program of Saleh Bay, a collaboration between the Lenfest Ocean Program, Rekam Nusantara Fisheries Resources Center of Indonesia (FRCI), and IPB University.
Prof Budy explained that the EBFM-based approach examines how to integrate ecosystem elements into fisheries management. To achieve this, it is important to know the indicators that can describe the impact and resilience of the fisheries system.Â
“These ecosystem indicators are proposed to be applied to marine fisheries in certain ecosystems, namely coral reefs, seagrasses, and mangroves in Indonesia,” he explained.
During the five-day or 40-hour training, participants from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Mataram University, Samawa University, and IPB University learned about the use of Ecosim model finalization, EBFM metrics and other aspects of EBFM. Participants also learned about socioeconomic data and its integration into the model, Rstudio for data processing, and setting basic parameters in Ecosim.
This activity was made possible with the support of Dr Beth Fulton from The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia. The training was organized by Yayasan Rekam Nusantara, IPB University, Murdoch University, and CSIRO Australia. (*/Rz) (IAAS/Aly)
