The 2024 China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) held recently in Nanning, Guangxi, China, served as a major promotional platform for various Southeast Asian countries, including Indonesia.

This year, the Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development (DPMA) of IPB University, in collaboration with PT Astra International Tbk, participated through the Astra Prosperous Village Program. They showcased a range of Indonesia’s top commodities with high potential to enter the ASEAN and Chinese markets.

DPMA IPB University, as the Agricultural Cluster Mentor for the Astra Prosperous Village Program, took advantage of this opportunity to strengthen Indonesia’s cultural image on the international stage and promote key products from the mentored villages.

During the exhibition, the Indonesian booth attracted significant attention from both general visitors and potential buyers from various countries.

Indonesian agricultural products such as coffee and vanilla successfully captivated many international business players. In addition, local rice varieties known for their distinctive taste received positive responses from exhibition visitors.

Moreover, traditional handicrafts like woven bags and percussion instruments, such as drums, were also major draws for attendees.

Dr Handian Purwawangsa, Director of PMA at IPB University, expressed his enthusiasm for these achievements. “This participation not only enhances Indonesia’s cultural image but also opens significant business opportunities and expands trade networks with ASEAN countries and China,” he said.

The expo provided Indonesian delegates with ample opportunities to establish broader connections with ASEAN countries and China. The potential collaborations emerging from meetings with various business players represent strategic steps for the development of villages under the Astra Prosperous Village Program.

“This collaboration is also expected to improve community welfare by enhancing market access and implementing more effective marketing strategies,” added Dr Handian.

DPMA IPB University and PT Astra International Tbk’s participation in CAEXPO 2024 reflects their commitment to continuously support the economic development of rural communities through various empowerment programs.

Indonesia’s participation not only showcased outstanding products but also delivered the message that village-produced goods have strong competitive value on the international stage. (*/Nr/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
