The closing ceremony of IPB University’s International Landscape Architecture Student Workshop (ILASW) 2024 was held with great fanfare. For a week, from September 9 to 14, 2024, delegates from various universities and backgrounds have collaborated intensively.

Through an in-depth exchange of knowledge and experience, the delegates have explored the potential of disaster mitigation-based landscape practices. The final result is a series of innovative works that not only reflect the cultural diversity and geographical conditions of each country, but also offer relevant and sustainable solutions to disaster challenges at the landscape scale.

The closing ceremony included awarding, cultural night, and gala dinner. In an atmosphere of togetherness, the delegates celebrated the success of the collaboration by appreciating the best works produced during the workshop.

During the closing ceremony, first place winner from group four Chunhan Tsai shared his impressions and messages. “I am very honored to be a delegate in the ILASW 2024 event. Everyone here is very friendly and interesting. I feel very satisfied and happy to get to know each other during this week.”

“I wish you all the best, and I’ll see you again in the future!” she said excitedly. These remarks not only reflected personal happiness, but also demonstrated the sense of solidarity and camaraderie among the delegates. This moment of appreciation was the culmination of the collaborative spirit that had been established.

Several guests gave positive feedback on the event. Prof Wei-Bin Ben Chen said, “This workshop is the most important thing to establish friendship. The delegates came from different countries with different cultures and experiences, and it made new ideas emerge. Having fun and making friendships is the most meaningful thing for all of us.”

Dr Beata J Gawryszewska, BEng, PhD, DSc, from Warsaw University of Life Sciences (WULS), stated, “I expected to meet great people, and I did. My expectations were met by hearing many new things from my colleagues.”

Prof Nappy L Navarra, D Eng, also shared his views, “I hope the students can be more interactive and creative in finding solutions to the problems they face. This is important so that their designs can truly reflect the needs of the community.”

Ir Umar Zain of Oemardi Zain Landscape Consultant added, “Awareness is the most important thing. Students should feel that they are very important for our future. Through this event, the delegates gained valuable experience and knowledge.”

The event not only successfully achieved its goal of facilitating learning, but also built a strong international network among the younger generation of landscape architecture. The delegates returned to their respective countries with fond memories and new insights that will shape their future. (*/Rz) (IAAS/Ard)
