Himasiter Hydroponic Park IPB University: Food Security Innovation to Prevent Stunting in Sinarsari Village
The Capacity Improvement Program Team of Student Organisations (PPK Ormawa) Nutrition and Animal Feed Student Association (Himasiter) IPB University launched an innovative program in the form of a hydroponic garden with Deep Flow Technique (DFT) system in Sinarsari Village, Dramaga District, Bogor, West Java.
This activity aims to increase the availability of food in the community, especially for families who are indicated for stunting. “This hydroponic garden program can be an effective solution in facing the challenge of food availability, especially for residents who have limited land,” explained Mutiara Rizkia Nurkamil, Leader of the PPK Ormawa Himasiter Team.
By using the DFT system, plants will get nutrients directly from the flowing solution, thus accelerating growth and increasing crop yields. The PPK Ormawa Himasiter team involves the community in the process of creating and managing a hydroponic garden, so that they can learn and apply this technique directly.
Mutiara explained, this activity begins with training for residents to be taught how to design and build a DFT hydroponic system, including the right selection of materials and plant care techniques.
“We hope that with this training, people can produce their own fresh vegetables at home. This is a concrete step to increase food availability and prevent stunting,” said Mutiara.
She continued, the public’s enthusiasm for this program is very high. Many residents including housewives who actively participate in hydroponic garden creation activities.
Siti, one of the residents said, “I am very happy to see how to grow vegetables with the hydroponic method. With this, we can have fresh and healthy vegetables for the family without having to go to the market.”
Support from local community leaders is also very positive. Chief of RT 8, Pepen, stated, “We strongly support this initiative by students because it is very beneficial for the community. With a hydroponic garden, we hope to increase awareness of the importance of balanced nutrition and food security in our village.”
The success of this program is expected to be an example for other villages in increasing food security. With the commitment to continue to accompany the community in the cultivation process, the PPK Ormawa Himasiter team hopes that the hydroponic park can provide long-term benefits for the residents of Sinarsari Village.
