The Department of Community Nutrition, Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema) IPB University in collaboration with the Department of Nutrition, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and IPB Training successfully organized The 3rd IPB International Conference on Nutrition and Food (ICNF 2024).

Carrying the theme Sustainable Nutrition and Food for Human Development, this event was held with the support of the International Research Institute (LRI) of Food, Nutrition, and Health of IPB University through the Inter-University Center of Excellence Grant Program (PUAPT) 2024.

The chief organizer, Dr Eny Palupi, explained that ICNF 2024 is a forum for expert collaboration for a better future of food security and nutrition. Over the past few days, participants had the opportunity to listen to presentations from leading experts, have in-depth discussions, and explore research and innovative solutions to overcome the challenges of food security and nutrition. 

“From the registration stage, manuscript preparation, to presentations, as well as the upcoming publication phase, all participants showed extraordinary dedication and hard work. This activity is expected to continue to strengthen collaboration between academics, industry, and policy makers in advancing society towards a better future,” she said.

In this program, the Department of Community Nutrition presented speakers for the plenary session, namely Prof Hardinsyah (IPB University, President of FANS Indonesia), Prof Vimal Karani (University of Reading, UK), Prof Norhasmah Sulaiman (UPM, Malaysia), Assoc Prof Nurul Huda (Universiti Malaysia Sabah), Prof Eleni Andreou (University of Nicosia, Cyprus), and Prof Aimee Sheree A Barion (University of the Philippines Los Banos). 

As for the special session, the speakers who attended included Prof Stephen P Bird (University of Southern Queensland, Australia) Prof Ahmad Sulaeman (IPB University, Chairman of SoyBeaN Indonesia), Dr Dadi H Maskar (Sahid University, US Soybean Export Council / USSEC Indonesia).

The ICNF 2024 event was attended by 136 participants, consisting of 132 presenters and 4 non-presenters. A total of 132 research articles were presented at the conference, with 129 manuscripts selected for publication in partnership with the Malaysian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences (MJMHS) and Web of Conferences.

The manuscripts presented at 3rd ICNF 2024 were organized into four main thematic areas, namely Clinical Nutrition (CL), with 6 oral presentations and 4 poster presentations; Community Nutrition (CO) with 49 oral presentations and 17 poster presentations; Food Innovation (FI) with 37 oral presentations and 6 poster presentations; and Food and Nutrition Systems (FN) with 12 oral presentations and 1 poster presentation. In total the conference featured 104 oral presentations and 28 e-poster presentations.

This activity was also filled with remarks from the Rector of IPB University Prof Arif Satria, Chairman of the Department of Community Nutrition Prof Katrin Roosita, and Dean of Fema Dr Sofyan Sjaf. A number of sponsors such as Sarihusada, USSEC Soybean Indonesia, Energen from Mayora, Kara from Sambu Group, Unilab Perdana, Gaga, IPB Press, and Beyondly from Paragon contributed to the success of this year’s ICNF event.
