A total of 23 state universities with legal entities (PTNBH) attended the 10th Internal Supervisory Unit (SPI) Forum. The event was held for two days (14-15/10) at the IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor.

The 10th SPI Forum event was themed ‘Digitalization of Internal Control to Realize Good University Governance’.

Dr Wawan Oktariza, Chairperson of Internal Audit Office of IPB University said the forum was attended by 97 representatives of internal controllers from 23 PTNBH. With the addition of new members, namely Jakarta State University and Sriwijaya University.

“SPI has a central role in implementing Good University Governance (GUG), which is to ensure that all objectives and programs run in accordance with the expected output and outcome planning. It also provides adequate assurance that the university’s business processes have been managed prudently and accountably,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the SPI PTNBH Forum aims to become a forum for sharing so that there are efforts to improve Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) in each PTNBH, so that all PTNBH can collaboratively realize GRC improvements, and anticipate fatal risks related to GRC.

Dr Wawan hopes that this forum will be a means to build synergy between SPIs of all PTNBH in managing examinations/audits carried out by government auditors, both the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), and the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek).

Prof Memed Sueb, Chairman of the SPI Forum of PTNBH 2024 expressed his gratitude to IPB University for hosting 23 PTNBH through this SPI forum. “This forum can be a sharing event on how to control risks, especially in relation to digitalization that occurs in each PTNBH,” he said.

When opening the event, Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, said that SPI is very important as part of efforts to prevent risks in building good governance.

“SPI has an instrument in maintaining the process of good governance in accordance with the corridor. The SPI function is the right hand of a regulatory process,” he continued.

Furthermore, he said that institutions tend to dislike findings in the context of audits. In fact, he said, internal audits can address various things. “If there are findings, it is a momentum to improve. In addition, audits can make institutions trustworthy,” he said.

“IPB University’s experience, with trust capital, can facilitate cooperation in terms of international funding,” said Rector.

He said, IPB University has begun to build trust at the global level so as to create better governance and stronger trust. This has an impact on the amount of international funding received by IPB University.

Meanwhile, the speaker of the event, Charles Lim from Swiss German University, reviewed data leakage. He said that 85 percent of the main cause of data leakage was due to weak human factors. He also revealed that Indonesia is the country with the 7th largest data breach leak in the world.

Assistant for Digital Transformation, Institute for Information Management and Digital Transformation (LMITD) IPB University, Dean Apriana Ramadhan, SKom, MKom also shared field experiences in managing cyber security at IPB University. (dh/Rz) (IAAS/Hap)
