The Department of Animal Production and Technology (IPTP) of the Faculty of Animal Science of IPB University held a training event on innovative product development based on duck eggs to improve the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), one of which is Abinisa SME located in Serang, Banten Province.

This community service activity carried out by IPB University lecturers in the IPTP Department was funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) through the Research and Community Service Information Base (BIMA) program with the Regional Superior Product Business Partner Empowerment scheme (PM-UPUD).

This activity is the initial stage of the PM-UPUD series which aims to improve the competitiveness of Abinisa SMEs through training in innovative product development, effective production management, and good animal husbandry practices.

The socialization and training this time presented speakers Prof Niken Ulupi, Siti Aminah, SPt, MSi, and Muhammad Rifqi Mauludi, SPt as performers to provide information and answer the concerns of SMEs.

Dr Zakiah Wulandari as the chief executive of PM-UPUD said that she received information about one of the SME actors in Sujung Village who had a strong desire to advance his business along with the surrounding business groups. However, they have been experiencing several obstacles related to their duck farming industry.

“The business actors want to increase effectiveness in production and sales in order to increase the competitiveness of their business. Therefore, the socialization and training this time discussed production management, good duck rearing, Good Food Production Methods for the Household Industry (CPPB-IRT), and how to maximize sales with modern marketing methods,” she said.

The activity, which was attended by 23 participants from various backgrounds, was well received, especially during the socialization and training sessions on duck farming and modern marketing. Susi, one of the socialization and training participants, admitted that she got a broader view and thought after participating in this activity.

“It turns out that there are still many things that we can maximize regarding the business that we have been running. Starting from duck livestock management, innovation in processing livestock products, to efforts to maximize marketing by utilizing technology in this increasingly modern era,” said Susi.

After the socialization and discussion were completed, the activity continued with a meal with all participants to establish togetherness between participants, resource persons, and organizers with the main menu of milkfish which is one of the characteristics of food in Serang Regency, Banten.
