IPB University Innovation KKN-T Students Hold Action to Clean Tiris Beach Free from Garbage
Students of the Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKN-T) Innovation IPB University took real steps by conducting beach cleaning activities in the Tiris Beach area, Pabean Ilir, Indramayu, West Java. This activity also aims to increase public awareness of the importance of maintaining beach cleanliness.
This beach cleaning activity involved IPB University Innovation KKN-T students, beach administrators, village officials, and youth organizations. Even several village officials and mothers from the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) were also involved.
This beach cleaning action is routinely carried out every Sunday. This aims to make visitors aware that this beach must always be maintained to avoid piles of garbage. This activity is also the first step to invite visitors to participate in maintaining the beach environment.
“The activity began with a joint prayer, continued by combing the coastline by collecting scattered garbage one by one. In this activity, we collected several types of garbage such as organic and inorganic waste. Not infrequently we also find toxic and hazardous waste (B3) around the coast. The waste that has been collected will be handed over to the beach management,” said Devani Ira Putri, one of the students.
Devani said that this clean-up action is not just about keeping the beach free from lots of waste, but also so that the surrounding community and tourists can contribute to the sustainability of Tiris Beach. “With this beach clean-up, it is hoped that all levels of society can maintain cleanliness for the sustainability of the environment on the coast,” she concluded.
