The Chairman of Farmer and Fishery Center (TNC) IPB University, Prof Hermanu Triwidodo, provided information through a sharing session activity with partner farmers of Botani Fresh Mart IPB. The activity themed ‘Pest Control in Plant Cultivation Process’ was organized by the Business, Investment, and Waqf Management Board (BP Biswaf) IPB University on Wednesday (31/7) at the TNC IPB University Building.

The sharing session activity was opened by Muhammad Isbayu, SP as Secretary of Business and Field Station of BP Biswaf IPB University. In his remarks, Bayu conveyed the problem of pests in plant cultivation which made IPB University feel the need to provide facilities for partner farmers to consult directly with experts at IPB University.

The discussion on pest control by Prof Hermanu Triwidodo, was explained with two main methods, namely killing pests and managing healthy plant cultivation.

“Killing pests is indeed fast, but often inefficient because the disease will come back. On the other hand, healthy cultivation management can minimize pest attacks,” he said.

Prof Hermanu also emphasized the importance of farmers understanding the symptoms and causes of plant diseases. “By knowing these two pieces of information, better actions than using pesticides can be taken,” he said.

In addition, he also explained several environmentally friendly actions, such as increasing the use of organic materials, bio-immunization, rational use of fertilizers, and avoiding synthetic pesticides.

This activity also introduced the IPB Digitani platform, presented by Fathiyya Azzahra, SP as the manager of this platform. According to her, this platform can make it easier for partner farmers to consult further regarding agriculture with experts at IPB University.

This event ended with an interactive question and answer session with 13 partner farmers of Botani Fresh Mart IPB University who were present. Two alumni of IPB University, Idham Kholid, SE and Muhammad Anugerah Raharjo, SP also shared their experiences and knowledge.

This activity not only strengthens the relationship between IPB University and partner farmers, but also becomes an important forum for sharing practical and sustainable solutions in pest control in plant cultivation. (TNC/Rz) (IAAS/HNJ)
