IPB University Inaugurates New Study Programme, Smart Agriculture

Faculty of Agriculture (Faperta) IPB University has inaugurated the secretariat of a new study programme, Smart Agriculture. The secretariat of Smart Agriculture was symbolically inaugurated by the Vice Rector of IPB University for Education and Student Affairs, Prof drh Deni Noviana on Saturday, (17/8).

The inauguration of Smart Agriculture was attended by a number of IPB University leaders, including the Secretary of the Institute Prof Agus Purwito, Vice Rector for Education and Student Affairs Prof drh Deni Noviana, Vice Rector for Resource Resilience and Infrastructure Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Agromaritime Development Prof Ernan Rustiadi, Vice Rector for Global Connectivity, Collaboration, and Alumni Relation Prof Iskandar Z Siregar, deans, and leaders in Faperta.

Prof drh Deni Noviana explained that the Smart Agriculture Study Programme is the 5th most tight study programme at the undergraduate level (S1). In 2024, the ratio of the tightness of Smart Agriculture Study Programme is 1:32. The current number of students is 44 people from various entry points at IPB University.

Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof Suryo Wiyono, added that the birth of Smart Agriculture was also encouraged by the cooperation between IPB University and Gyeongsang National University (GNU), South Korea. 

“Smart Agriculture is also open to sharing facilities with other faculties or study programmes. The lecturers are not only from the Faculty of Agriculture, but also from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, but also from GNU,” he said.

“This study programme also received a grant from GNU for laboratory improvements, agriphotovoltaic construction, and a plant factory that will be used as a student education facility,” added the Chairman of Smart Agriculture Study Programme of IPB University, Prof Awang Maharijaya. 

The inauguration ceremony was followed by a room tour as well as a group photo in the Smart Agriculture Study Programme Secretariat Room located at Wing 16 Level 3. It is hoped that with this study programme, collaboration between study programmes and faculties at IPB University can be better and have a positive impact on the wider community. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
