IPB University Hosts 13th Asian Universities Forum, Inviting 17 Member Universities in Asia
IPB University hosted the 13th Asian Universities Forum (AUF) entitled ‘Advancing Innovation and Universities Industry Partnership to Shape Higher Education’. The event was held for two days (20-21/8) at IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor. In this forum, 17 AUF member universities from various countries in Asia were present.
The meeting of a number of universities became a moment to explore the experiences of each AUF member on how to bridge research and innovation.
In the event, the Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria said that this forum was initiated in order to promote universities and build agreements related to student exchange programmes in each region. It was useful so that each AUF member could work together and discuss challenges in Asia.
Furthermore, Prof Arif said that IPB University is strengthening its collaboration network at the global level. Based on the ranking released by QS World University Ranking (WUR) in 2025, IPB University is in position 426 in the world.
Meanwhile, in the QS WUR by Subject ranking in 2024, IPB University managed to maintain its Top 10 position in Asia in Agriculture and Forestry. In the QS WUR by Subject Agriculture and Forestry 2024, IPB University was ranked 7th in Asia and 51st in the world.
Rector conveyed the commitment of IPB University to implement the development of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS). Now, IPB University is included in the Top 100 SDGs from THE Impact Ranking.Â
Prof Arif also mentioned the model of management and commercialisation of innovations carried out by IPB University in an effort to realise a university that fosters techno-socioentrepreneurship. IPB University has built the Sains Techno Park (STP), an area dedicated and professionally managed for the management and commercialisation of innovation, intellectual property-based technology transfer and economic development from downstream results.
“We are now pushing the commercialisation of innovations by more than 50 per cent. Through this STP, we encourage innovation to be used by industry,” he explained. In addition, he said, there is ‘Serambi Botani’, a storefront that provides IPB University innovation products that are already present in a number of malls in various regions in Indonesia.
Rector also briefly reviewed the distribution of community service carried out by students and lecturers of IPB University. “Until now, IPB University has sent students and lecturers to 5.746 villages or 6,9 per cent of villages throughout Indonesia.”
Prof Abdul Haris, Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, congratulated IPB University for successfully holding the 13th Annual Asian University Forum.Â
“This is a good strategy to be able to establish cooperation globally, as well as an academic implementation effort to be able to establish cooperation with university partners in Asia. The theme is also interesting, how we prepare future skills for students,” he said. Â
“Congratulations to IPB University for successfully inviting international partners. Hopefully it will continue to work with its innovations,” he concluded.
Hong Lim Ryu, President of Seoul National University said that he was honoured to be at IPB University. He praised IPB University for being one of the leading universities in agriculture in Indonesia.
He also appreciated IPB University for its ability to produce quality food in Indonesia, supporting the government in advancing primary and secondary education, as well as building a strong ecosystem between academia government and industry. “Through this event, it is hoped that there will be learning for each member of the Asian Universities Forum,” he said.
