Genome Editing Research Collaboration between SKHB IPB University and Seoul National University
School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (SKHB) IPB University received a visit by a delegation of five people from Seoul National University (SNU) South Korea, led by Prof Go Jang. This visit is the first step in the framework of research cooperation in the field of genome editing between the two institutions.
The event held in the SKHB Deanery Conference Room, IPB Dramaga Campus was opened with a speech by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs and Alumni Prof Ni Wayan Kurniani Karja. She said a warm welcome to Prof Go Jang and his team.
Prof Ni Wayan first introduced several lecturers who were present and would be involved in this collaboration, including Dr Sri Murtini, Prof Bambang Purwantara, Dr Muhammad Agil, Dr Arifin Budiman Nugraha, and Dr Wahono Esthi Prasetyaningtyas.
In her speech, Prof Ni Wayan explained the development of SKHB IPB University, starting from the introduction of various study programs available, achievements in terms of student exchange, student and lecturer achievements, publications and research, collaboration, international accreditation, to facilities and units owned.
The discussion continued with a presentation by Dr Muhammad Agil, who introduced the Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) and Biobanking Laboratory for the conservation of Sumatran rhinos and other endangered animals. After that, the presentation was continued by Prof Go Jang who also explained the various activities in his laboratory at SNU, which included embryo and animal production in vitro, primary culture and maintenance, and genetic engineering.
The visit was completed with a tour of several SKHB IPB University facilities, including equestrian facilities, Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Education and Service Laboratories, and ART Laboratory.
