The Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development (DPMA) at IPB University has inaugurated the Tea School in Takokak District, Cianjur Regency, West Java. This program aims to cultivate young entrepreneurs who are skilled in developing exclusive tea products.

The theme for this year, “Empowering Agro-sociopreneurs with Exclusive Tea Development,” reflects the Tea School’s vision to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in the tea industry. The Tea School is designed to provide education, skill enhancement, awareness, and foster innovation in the tea sector.

At the opening ceremony, the Assistant Director of Social Entrepreneurship at DPMA IPB University, Dr Iqbal Irfany, along with the Head of UPTD PP Cempaka Takokak and Sukanagara, and representatives from the Pasawahan Village Government, were present to support the implementation of Tea School 2024.

“This Tea School is not just a training program but an effort to create young entrepreneurs who can elevate the value of local tea into an exclusive product recognized in the global market,” said the Assistant Director of Social Entrepreneurship at DPMA IPB University in his opening remarks.

The series of activities began with an introduction to the history of tea, followed by sessions on seeding, picking, processing, brewing, and marketing tea. Participants had the opportunity to learn directly from experts about how to cultivate, process, and produce high-quality tea, as well as understand the potential and challenges within the tea industry.

The program also provided practical training on how to make tea using the proper methods and raised participants’ awareness about various types of tea and the challenges faced by tea farmers and entrepreneurs.

“With the establishment of the Tea School, IPB University hopes to make a tangible contribution to the development of the tea industry in Indonesia, while also shaping a generation of young people ready to become agro-sociopreneurs in the tea sector,” concluded Dr Iqbal Irfany. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
