Stunting is a nutritional problem in children under five years old that is still faced by Indonesia and has received attention from many parties. Stunting in Indonesia is still a public problem that must be addressed immediately because the prevalence is still above 20 percent.
In an effort to accelerate the reduction of stunting in Sukabumi District, the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) in collaboration with the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (IKK), Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema) IPB University held a cadre capacity building assistance program. The mentoring program was carried out through the implementation of the Quality Family School (SKB).
The activity was attended by 10 cadres from two villages, namely Gede Pangrango Village and Kayumanis Village, Kadudampit District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java. The facilitators involved in the activity were Dr Tin Herawati, Dr Dwi Hastuti, Dr Lilik Noor Yuliati, from the Department of IKK IPB University and dr Yusuf Ryadi from the Faculty of Medicine IPB University.
The materials presented consisted of Implementation of Family Functions for Quality Human Resources (HR); Environmental Characteristics for Optimal Growth and Development in Toddlers; Application of Asah, Asih, Asuh for Child Growth and Development; Maternal and Child Health Tips to Prevent Stunting; Smart Financial Management; and Additional Food Processing Practices.
According to Dr Tin Herawati as the leader of the accompanying team, as a follow-up to this activity, each cadre must accompany and implement the Quality Family School. The participants are 10 families closest to the trained cadre’s house who have children under the age of five (toddlers).
“Each cadre must accompany 10 families, so that from 10 trained cadres, the total target families who are accompanied and participate in the Quality Family School are 100 families,” she said.Â
In addition, she continued, each cadre must also teach families to process healthy food based on local food to fulfill children’s nutrition. “The activities of cadres in the field are of course under the monitoring of the IPB University team and family planning extension workers in the field,” said Dr Tin.
