The Capacity Building Program (PPK) Team of the Student Organization (Ormawa) from the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) at IPB University conducted another outreach activity in Kampung Kebon Kopi, Ciampea Udik Village, on 12/7. This initiative aimed to support the implementation of environmentally friendly and sustainable technologies in aquaculture.

The activity, which was attended by village youth, was intended to increase understanding of water use efficiency in the Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS). The activity began with a material presentation on the importance of water use efficiency in the RAS system.

“The participants were given an explanation of the working principle of the RAS system, its benefits for the environment and aquaculture, as well as techniques to optimise water use in the system,” explained Niken, one of the PPK Ormawa Team.

She said, after the presentation of the material, the activity continued with an interactive Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The participants were divided into small groups to discuss the challenges and opportunities of implementing RAS systems in their areas.

“This discussion provides an opportunity for participants to share experiences, knowledge, and find solutions together to problems that may arise,” said Niken.

“We are very pleased to see the enthusiasm and active participation of the village youth. Through this socialisation and FGD, we hope to increase understanding of water use efficiency in aquaculture and encourage wider application of RAS technology,” she said.

She also hoped that with this socialisation activity, the village youth can be more prepared and confident in implementing an efficient and environmentally friendly RAS system.

“The PPK Ormawa BEM FPIK IPB University team is committed to continuing to assist and provide technical support to the community in developing sustainable aquaculture,” said Niken. (IAAS/RSL)
