Supporting SMEs in Karangsong Village, KKNT Innovation IPB University Students Utilise Milkfish Potential into Nuggets
Students of IPB University’s Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKNT) Innovation held a training on making nuggets using milkfish as raw material. The event was held at Karangsong Village Hall, Indramayu, West Java.
This activity is part of the Fishery Product Processing (Porikan) programme in collaboration with Women Berdikari (PE-RI) Indramayu Regency, to target mothers in Karangsong Village. The event was attended by the Chief of Section (Kasi) of Village Community Empowerment of Indramayu District, Chief of Karangsong Village, Secretary of Karangsong Village, Mina Asri Group and also village officials.
Alfiyanto Firdaus, a representative of KKNT Innovation IPB University students said, Karangsong Village has natural resources, especially milkfish, which has potential. The Porikan programme aims to utilise this natural potential, to increase the selling price and product value.
“The milkfish nuggets produced are expected to overcome the milkfish harvest that has the aroma of seaweed,” he added.
In addition, Alfiyanto said, this event also provided an appeal regarding the importance of good packaging, which has branding to increase the market. “There are already many products from Karangsong Village, but product packaging and branding have yet to be maximised,” he explained.
Handi Mian as the Secretary of Karangsong Village said, ‘It is hoped that the programme collaborated between Porikan and PE-RI can help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Karangsong Village and become a learning effort for the Mina Asri group.’
“The hope of this event is that it is not just a one-off event. But it can have an impact on advancing MSMEs in Karangsong. Not only that, IPB University students can also have a good impact on the potential of fishery products. In order to add selling value to the product, good packaging is important, it is also necessary to add the name of the village as a product identity,’ added the Chief of Village Community Empowerment of Indramayu District.
The Porikan event contained material presentation related to milkfish potential, calculation of production costs, product recipes, manufacturing steps, and also direct product manufacturing demonstrations. The raw material used is milkfish that has no thorns and has been mashed. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
