Rector’s Message to IPB University’s Freshmen Batch 61: Don’t Be Arrogant, Actualise the Lifecycle of Rice
Thousands of new students of IPB University batch 61 attended the Kick Off of New Student Orientation (OMB), Monday (15/7). Through the Zoom Meeting, Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria delivered several important messages to Narapati Bimantara, the call of the 61st batch students.
“Welcome to the 61st batch of students. Welcome to join the campus of our pride together,” said Rector.
IPB 61 OMB Kick Off is the first series that must be followed by new students. Through this event, new students will get information about academics in the first year and also dormitory life which may be different from before when in high school, the Rector said.
Rector said that IPB University will prepare everything that will support students to be able to survive in facing the challenges of the times. “IPB University is a world-class university so its students should be able to master various things in their fields,” said Prof Arif.

“IPB University students must be an agile learner, ready with their own expertise. In a time of rapid change, it is not enough for students to be the right learners, but also the fast ones,” he said.
“A true learner makes every place a school and everyone a teacher. Being a student of IPB University should not be arrogant, students must learn anytime and anywhere. Students must be able to apply the rice philosophy of overcoming problems with solutions not arrogance that can harm others,” he said.
The welcome speech was also delivered by the Vice Rector of IPB University for Education and Student Affairs, Prof drh Deni Noviana. He said that being a new student of IPB University was an initial foothold in a deeper and broader intellectual exploration.
“Now you are in a more challenging phase of life, a new phase that provides many opportunities, opportunities and experiences. This opportunity needs to be utilised as well as possible,” he said.
Being a student of IPB University, he said, is a gift as well as a mandate to be able to develop knowledge. The opportunity to take education on the campus of IPB University cannot be obtained by everyone. “Be an active student who is collaborative, communicative both at national and international levels,” he ordered.
Furthermore, Prof Deni said that OMB activities were organised by IPB University to welcome new students in preparing freshmen to become adult independent students who go hand in hand with advances in digital technology by preparing the competencies needed in the 21st century or future skill sets.
