Maritime Village Initiative, PPKO Himafarin IPB University Brings This Innovation to Fishermen in Sangrawayang Village
The 2024 Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) has once again become a forum for service for the IPB University Fisheries Resource Utilization Student Association (Himafarin). Through this program, IPB University students are trying to empower villages on the topic of Maritime Villages as a sustainable program which was previously carried out in 2023.
The first workshop was held with the community of Sangrawayang Village, Sukabumi, West Java, which was the opening point for the IPB University Himafarin implementation team in carrying out the service program. The event was attended by the IPB University Himafarin implementation team, Muhtar (Head of Sangrawayang Village), Dadin (Chair of the Sangrawayang Village Owned Enterprise), Bangbang (Chief of Citamiyang Hamlet), and Dr Zulkarnain (assistant lecturer).
This activity received a good response from the community, as expressed by Muhtar as Head of Sangrawayang Village. “The community and I are happy with the presence of IPB University students who are willing to maintain the sustainability of the program in this village,” he said.
One member of the IPB University Himafarin team, Zahra Aulia, said that apart from being a starting point for the student service program, this workshop was also a place for friendship and as a liaison between students and the community, including the village government, business actors, community leaders and families. fisherman.
“The continuity of the previous year’s program is the basis for our evaluation of the sustainability of the implementation of the Ormawa PPK program this year. “This time, we have come to introduce the innovation of trap fishing equipment after successfully introducing the innovation of fishing aids in the form of booster FADs in the previous year,” explained Zahra.
He added that other work programs are presented in one program structure in the form of empowering fishing families which includes target group categories. For fishermen’s fathers, a training program on trap fishing gear innovation with bait boosters was implemented. Meanwhile, for fishermen’s mothers with processing and entrepreneurship training programs, and fishermen’s children with beach class programs at kindergarten, elementary and middle school levels.
