KKNT Innovation IPB University Students Introduce Sustainable Farming through POC from Goat Manure Waste
IPB University’s Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKNT) student team has introduced a sustainable livestock program in Padaharja Village, Tegal, Central Java (17/7). Padaharja Village became the location of KKNT Inovasi IPB University because the village has promising economic potential, which is goat farming.
Carey Han, a member of the KKNT IPB University team in Padaharja Village, was explaining that recycling livestock waste is one of the important aspects to be considered. Padaharja Village is one of the villages that has many goat farms. However, the utilization and processing of livestock waste has not been done much.
“Livestock waste that is not managed properly can cause environmental pollution and can interfere with the convenience and beauty of the environment. Therefore, recycling livestock waste is one of the important steps in preventing environmental pollution. One of the innovative solutions to deal with livestock waste is by making liquid organic fertilizer,” said Carey Han, a student of IPB University.
She explained that the practice of making liquid organic fertilizer is done by mixing goat manure, molasses, agricultural EM4, bran, and water into a container. The mixed materials are then transferred to a 20-liter gallon and left to ferment for 15 days.
The demonstration was enthusiastically followed by the management of the Padaharja Village Women Farmers Group (KWT). Sri Windarti as Padaharja Village Agricultural Extension Officer also conveyed a message in this activity.
“Liquid organic fertilizer (POC) can be used on plants directly, while the remaining solids can become soil fertilizer. Liquid organic fertilizer gives better results when applied to plants than using chemical fertilizers,” Sri Windarti told the KWT management of Padaharja Village.
She continued, liquid organic fertilizer can also be made with other materials. The production of liquid organic fertilizer from livestock waste is also expected to be a solution to goat farming waste in Padaharja Village, so that sustainable and environmentally friendly animal farming can be achieved.
