IPB University’s Lecturer Pulang Kampung Assists Fresh Mina Pudakpayung Pokdakan to Increase Fish Farming Productivity

Pudakpayung Village, Banyumanik Sub-district, Semarang City, Central Java hosted the activities of IPB University’s Dosen Pulang Kampung (Dospulkam). This program was led by Dr Beata Ratnawati from the Environmental Engineering and Management Study Program of IPB University Vocational School.

The activity is in the form of business assistance to a group of fish farmers (Pokdakan) in Pudakpayung Village, namely Fresh Mina. The assistance includes making Recirculating (RAS) cultivation technology, training in tilapia enlargement, applying for a household industry license (IRT), and digital marketing.

“This Dospulkam IPB University program is one of the efforts to encourage the people of Pudakpayung Village, especially the fish farming group to increase the production and business of fish farming,” said Dr Beata.

The activities carried out are various, including the manufacture of RAS cultivation technology, training, and group discussions or focus group discussions (FGD) guided by IPB University lecturers.

The activity of making RAS cultivation technology aims to increase fish production and save water usage that can preserve nature and the environment. The training and FGDs aim to provide understanding to the community about increasing tilapia production so that it can improve the quality and quantity of fish produced.

This activity was attended by IPB University Vocational School lecturers from several study programs. Dr Beata Ratnawati was in charge of providing assistance in making RAS technology, Dr Cecilia Eny Indriastuti as a lecturer in the Fish Hatchery Technology and Management Study Program provided training in tilapia enlargement.

Dr Andi Early Febrinda, a lecturer in Food Quality Assurance Supervisor Study Program, provided training related to the preparation of IRT licenses, and Ayutyas Sayekti, SE, MSi, a lecturer in Agribusiness Management Study Program, was in charge of providing training related to digital marketing.

“This activity is expected to increase cooperation between IPB University and fish farming groups, Pudakpayung Village, and Semarang City Fisheries Service. In addition, this activity is expected to improve the welfare of the community through fish farming,” said Dr Beata

Overall, this activity received a positive response from the community of Pudakpayung Village, especially the fish farming group, the Chairperson of Pudakpayung Village, the Semarang City Fisheries Service, and the fisheries extension officer were present to officially open this activity.

“They feel helped by the guidance from IPB University lecturers and hope that similar activities can continue to be carried out in the future and innovations from IPB University can continue to be developed so that they can be directly utilized by the community for common welfare,” said Dr Beata.
