IPB University’s Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKNT) students successfully taught how to sort waste to early childhood children ranging from PAUD, kindergarten, to elementary school in Tamansari Village, Tamansari District, Bogor Regency, West Java through the BarBer program: Barudak Bebersih.

Syahrul Wirahadi, Coordinator of the KKNT Team for Tamansari Village Innovation, explained that through this program, he and his team hope that children can become ‘cleanliness police’, caring and able to protect the environment properly.

“This program not only teaches children to sort waste by type, but also invites them to care more about the environment by picking up garbage scattered around the village,” he explained.

The KKNT Innovation IPB University team taught the importance of maintaining cleanliness and how to distinguish between organic and inorganic waste through posters, games, and interactive dances. More than 30 children were invited to pick up and sort waste around the RT 01/RW 08 area of Tamansari Village and immediately practiced how to sort the waste they picked up.

The children were also invited to recycle plastic cups that they had used for drinking into plant pots. Each child had the opportunity to decorate their plant pot according to their creativity and plant kale seeds in the plant pot.

Lusi, Principal of PAUD Bintang, believes that instilling the character of environmental awareness to children through the BarBer program is very effective. Therefore, she agreed to make the BarBer program as one of the learning materials in the classroom.

“I believe adopting the BarBer program can increase children’s awareness of environmental cleanliness,” she said.

“Hopefully, the children of Tamansari Village will not only care about environmental cleanliness from an early age but can also become cleanliness police who will create a cleaner village environment,” Syahrul said. (*/Rz) (IAAS/NYS).
