IPB University Vocational School becomes a Place for Bogor Sundanese Students to Express Themselves through Mimitran
IPB University Vocational School became a gathering place for Daya Mahasiswa Sunda (Damas) to explore local cultural traditions and wisdom. For two days (29-30/6), the Bogor branch of Damas held a ‘Mimitran’ activity at Zeta Building, IPB University Vocational School Campus.
This activity is a forum for education and training for prospective Damas members to become qualified individuals in carrying out their duties. With the theme ‘Patepang Sareng Technology Tradition: Cultural Exploration of Sareng Damas’, the activity was attended by 37 participants from various universities in Bogor City, such as IPB Vocational School, Ibnu Khaldun University, Bogor Islamic University, Ummul Quro Al-Islami Institute, and Sahid Islamic Institute (Inais).
The event was filled by several speakers such as Prof Ganjar Kurnia from Padjajaran University who discussed the meaning of Sundanese by inviting participants to understand and appreciate Sundanese culture in a modern context. He explained the noble values of Sundanese culture that are relevant to today’s life and how they can be applied in various aspects of life.
Furthermore, Dr RA Hangesti Emi Widyasari from the Vocational School of IPB University explained about leadership and organization. She provided insights on how to be a good leader and manage organizations effectively in the future. Ceu Rineka Rosinansis, Secretary General of Damas Puseur, gave material about ke-Damasan, discussing the importance of solidarity and the spirit of togetherness in the organization.
Next was Dr Wony Ahmad Ridwan, Vice Rector I of Cyber University, who gave an in-depth explanation of student affairs. He discussed the challenges and opportunities faced by students in developing themselves in the academic and non-academic world, as well as the importance of actively participating in organizational activities to improve soft skills and professional networks.
One of the participant representatives from IPB University Vocational School conveyed his impression of this mimitrant activity. He felt that this activity was extraordinary and provided an opportunity to make new friends. He was also proud to be part of the Bogor Branch Damas family.
“Hopefully Damas can run programs such as community service in the future, in order to be closer to local wisdom, preserve the language and other Sundanese culture so that it will not be eroded by the times,” said one of the participants.
The chief executive, Dwi Novelia Yulizar, explained that the background of this training was the need to strengthen human resources in the organization. In addition, this activity aims to get to know Damas better to prospective new members and provide a deeper understanding of the organization’s vision and mission.
Dr Edy Sambas as the Elder of the Damas Family hopes that this activity can produce new members who are not only academically competent, but also have a strong understanding of science, technology, culture and leadership, and are ready to actively contribute to the organization and the wider community.
