Students of the Ecotourism Study Program at the IPB University Vocational School successfully implemented their final project for the Recreation for Children, Elderly, and Disabled (RALUD) course by organizing recreational activities for the elderly in several nursing homes. This initiative involved the elderly in various recreational activities designed by practicum groups from the Bogor and Sukabumi classes.

The activities were carried out in seven nursing homes spread across Bogor and Sukabumi, namely Panti Werda Taman Gracelil, Panti Jompo Kamilus, Rumah Perawatan Usia Lanjut Krosten (RPUK) Muara Kasih, Panti Werdha Stella Maris, Panti Kasih GKI Sukabumi, Panti Sosial Wreda Bale Nyaah Ka Kolot, and Wisma Assisi.

Kania Sofiantina Rahayu, the Chairperson of the Ecotourism Study Program, expressed her appreciation for the successful implementation of the RALUD course. Kania explained that every human being, including the elderly, needs recreational activities.

“Generally, the elderly have the right to receive welfare and services that include social, cognitive, and emotional aspects. The common categories of recreation for the elderly are social recreation, outdoor recreation, and cultural recreation,” she explained.

Furthermore, she mentioned that the recreational activities involved modified games with various objectives, including increasing interaction among the elderly, reducing the level of forgetfulness, preventing dementia, and improving psychomotor skills.

“Modified games are designed and implemented with several objectives, such as increasing interaction among the elderly, reducing forgetfulness, preventing dementia, and improving psychomotor skills,” Kania added.

Through these activities, students of the Ecotourism Study Program at the IPB University Vocational School not only applied the theories they have learned but also made a tangible contribution to the welfare of the elderly in the community. (EKW/ASW/Lp) (IAAS/RUM)
